framework

Program Overview

The African Heritage Program explores African people, culture and heritage to ground development in Africanness. Through rigorous research, it deepens the understanding of African identity and value systems to inform development practice.

FOUNDATIONAL APPROACH

Understanding Africanness

MINDS believes that a better understanding of Africanness begins with systematic research and rigorous analysis of African heritage. This work seeks to develop an inclusive conceptualisation of Africanness, grounded in the values, and lived realities of African societies. Anchored in this understanding, the programme aims to inform development initiatives that are culturally grounded and more effective in addressing Africa’s development challenges.

APPLYING KNOWLEDGE

Key Activities

The Program identifies foundational African principles across governance, leadership and knowledge domains, applying these insights to assess and shape development initiatives.
