MANDELA INSTITUTE FOR DEVELOPMENT STUDIES (MINDS) LEADERSHIP FUNDAMENTAL SKILLS WEBINAR SERIES

MINDS is hosting its Leadership Development Training from the 22 – 26 June 2020, Virtual Event that will be attended by the MINDS scholars.

The Scholarship Programme was launched in 2016 as part of MINDS commitment to Africa’s development by providing opportunities for African youth to pursue post-graduate study within Africa, but always outside their own country. This provides scholars with an opportunity to establish networks with young people in other countries.

The Scholarship Programme is designed to produce future African leaders who are knowledgeable and comfortable with the continent beyond their national boundaries and develop leaders with a continental development mindset. We believe that the development of the continent can only be achieved through greater cooperation between African countries. It is hoped that this outlook will make it easier for MINDS scholars to work together to create a more cohesive continent for the benefit of all its people.

To date, MINDS has awarded scholarships to twenty-four Students, seven of who have since graduated. The scholarship is currently supported by the MasterCard Foundation, Nedbank Eyethu Community Trust, Diamond Empowerment Fund, Old Mutual Emerging Markets, as well as the Government of Rwanda.

Through this training, Scholars will be expected to understand how mindset and adaptability play a vital role in navigating the complexities of the world’s new academic and business contexts, how to improve their thinking processes, their emotional reasoning and actions and reactions to situations. Also, how to effectively communicate, confront and engage in difficult conversations while achieving mutually beneficial outcomes; How to gather credible sources of information analyse the information and make smart, creative, and useful conclusions to address and solve problems. Scholars will also be expected to become more productive and take control of their time while making decisive, agile resolutions.
